I will be attending Anime North this week again, and will be doing some photoshoots and concert photos as well. Any cosplayers interested in doing a shoot during AN, please feel free to see the C&C section for more info.

Just backtracking to Anime Central, I had the good fortune to meet a photographer named Scott. He does pretty good work doing convention photos. His site is photographybanzai.com. He also wrote an article comparing and contrasting some photos we both took on Friday. Photos from the Imeruat and Video Game Orchestra concert. It was great music! This is all the usable and presentable photos I have from ACEN 2012. This was my first time in the Chicago area and despite the cold weather, I was very pleased with the convention, met some interesting people, managed to do a number of photoshoots and got some great event photos. I will definitely try to make it back for next year!

A few hallway shots from Sunday and photos from the Eyeshine concert. Eyeshine is an independent band that has been around since 2004 and have released 8 albums.
During the press talk, when asked about their style they described it as very similar to edge rock. When asked about their experiences doing concerts at conventions, they mentioned small differences – such as sometimes needing to cheerlead convention attendees during their live performances. The lead singer of the band, Johnny Yong Bosch, is also a voice actor and is famous for playing the role of the 2nd Black Power Ranger. During their concert he improvised a song that answered a question posed by an audience member.

These are the hallway shots from Saturday. Unfortunately I didnt end up taking as many photos as I had hoped, I was having too much fun instead!

I also sat in on the Angelic Pretty press talk. They were asked about their design inspirations, the girls mentioned that they were inspired by cute things they found in shops, ie cakes, sweets, bags, shoes. They also mentioned that they keep seasonal changes in mind when creating new designs. Another question asked was who their typically customers are. They replied it was mostly highschool aged girls, but also youth and older women – these in particular are drawn to the classically structured, but still cute, designs.

Hallway snapshots from Friday as well as a photo of Mike McFarland during his press talk. Mr. McFarland talked about some of the challenges involved in voice acting; balancing creativity with regards to the tight schedules and budgets, working with actors’ strength and their personal schedules. As well as the challenges in script translation, particulary when trying to determine when to localize a concept or when to allow culturally obscure references, ideas to to be literally protrayed.
